Hi again everybody
It truly is wedding season now! A reliable source (my mate Danny who researches everything) tells me that November and March are the most popular months to get married. I think thats because they're the most neutral months of the year weather wise in Australia. I'm kinda biased towards March cos thats when Rach and I got married :-). But as you probably read further down on Stilgs.com, my best mate Paul and Kaylene are going to get married! Most likely in November next year. Let the preparations begin!
But before that we come to this current November. I've already attended one wedding, for Danny and Aija, and what a day that was. The predicted rain showed up for 30 minutes and coincided with the ceremony itself. From the minute the girls pulled up in the Cadillacs until the minister said 'Ladies and Gentlemen, I introduce to you for the first time as husband and wife... Danny & Aija'. At that very moment the rain stopped. Poetic or ironic?
Now as I mentioned earlier Danny researches everything. So he was happy to tell us the reason that people say that rain on the wedding day is good luck. It turns out that its an old Hindu belief. In Hindu marriages the bride and groom get tied together with rope to symbolise them joining together. A normal knot can be hard enough to untie, but when the rope is wet its almost impossible! So thats where the saying comes from. So I guess I we should all wish for rain for Stilgs' and Kaylenes wedding day :-)
This weekend our other friends Rach and Matt are getting married ( i told you its wedding season!) at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Newcastle. Now this should be a fun day. Rach and I are in the bridal party so thats really nice. We get to hang out all day.
But all of these weddings have led me to bucks parties! The first one was on the Gold Coast back in September for big James Warrens bucks. That was a crazy crazy weekend and one that ended being very expensive! His wedding was in October. The day before nationals started. Not great timing I have to admit, but it was a lot of fun.
The second bucks day was for Matt. Now this one was a toughy cos I was charged with organizing the day even tho I'm not quite best man. And Matt isn't exactly the quickest or most helpful when it comes to making decisions. For a good six months, when I asked 'What do you want to do for your bucks?' He would reply 'I don't care. Lets just go to the pub and get drunk'. Sounds fair enough, but let me point one thing out - bucks parties aren't just for the buck! Quite the opposite in fact. Most guys will only go on a bucks day if there are two things involved:
1 - Embarrassment/Humiliation or the chance to inflict pain on the buck.
2 - Strippers
Now ladies don't go getting all high and mighty. It's a tradition thats been happening for milenia! Who are we to break from tradition? Its also theoretically the last time the 'buck' will see another woman naked. So give the guy a break and let him watch a girl dance around topless for a while!
But back to Matts bucks day. It was organised with the help of Matts brother in law Steve. Steve provided his boat for the day and 11 people were selected to join Matt, Steve and myself on the boat. Then we had an Aquatic Pub Crawl. Lots of fun and lots of drinking! The day ended with Freemo getting asked to leave the pub we were in because he was no longer strong enough to hold his head up on his neck and it was quite frequently resting on his chest. From all reports he was quite amazed to wake up in his own bed as he had no idea how he'd actually gotten there or in fact what had happened since we got off the boat!
Backing up the very next day I had Dannys bucks day. We started with paintball at Paintball Pete's @ Mt White I was unable to partake in paintball tho, due to a broken ankle. So I watched. Initially I was standing by the field with only a protective mask on. After being shot at about 10 times by some idiots from Blacktown I decided that the 'safe' area was a better place to spectate from. After paintball we headed to Sydney for a Harbour Cruise. This was a wicked night like i had never experienced before and am likely to never experience again. Drugs were thrown around like laws didnt exist and one guy actually shagged a 'lingerie waitress' on the top deck of the boat!
But Kaylene.. if you're reading this, have no fear. Pauls bucks day won't be like that. Firstly because he's not just having a day (it'll be a few lead up events and then a culmination of the bucks at the Stilgsbourne Cup in early November 2009). And secondly because we won't be having a Sydney Harbour cruise! HAHA. But in all seriousness. There'll be strippers but no one will shag one. Unless its Jim and I'll buy him that crown we've spoken of before and I will call him King James!
Bring the Stilgs and Kaylene wedding festivities! Woot Woot!
